CONTEMPORARY BLACK AND WHITE ABSTRACT ART
Contemporary
abstract art received an innovative overhaul in
Ranna®
Lachlan's recent black and white art.
Ranna®
has adopted a more aggressive approach to laying large forms
onto her canvas, less deliberate than her 1990s abstract
art. Abstract art at its purest, the forms in these new
pieces have an epic quality that frees Ranna's work from
Asian calligraphic influences typical of her 1990s abstract
art.
Through
Ranna's continued use of her signature reflective and
refractive techniques, pictorial space is constantly
disrupted, figure and ground change place constantly, black
becomes silver, white becomes grey, grey becomes silver,
silver becomes black, nothing is as it seems and flux rules,
yet visual logic remains uncompromised in each moment of
flux. Part of Ranna's well-documented, cyclic, black and
white phases that regularly punctuate her work, this black
and white work is abstract art at its most magical. (ABOVE: #1 Contemporary black and white abstract art by Ranna® ; 2002, 376cm x 137cm/ 148" x 54".) mixed media on canvas, 2001-2002.
